Brands I Love: Travel Edition

Updated: Apr 12, 2019

Each time I travel I find myself using the same gear and packing the same items. Here are a few of my favorite things to travel with! Of course, some of these things vary with destination and season.

Bags

  • Away The Bigger Carry-On. This is the perfect carry-on or checked luggage for any trip. I usually plan to bring this one when I want to be able to check by bag on some flights and use it as carry-on for other parts of the trip.

  • Osprey Tempest 40. This is the perfect size for almost any overseas trip. It fits as carry-on for most of the budget airlines and it’s designed specifically for women! It can expand and pack extremely well.

  • Kanken Classic. I use this to hold my Kanken mini on the flight, and to store more in-flight essentials for my personal bag allowance.

  • Kanken Mini. This is the perfect drone bag! I fit all my drone essentials in here and all my electronics and then stick it inside my Kanken Classic.

  • Italian Backpack Purse. This purse is great because it converts to a backpack as well! I might opt to bring this if I’m doing more city site-seeing than hiking on my trip.

Clothing

These are some of my travel staples. I often reuse the same clothes for my trips because I don't like to over-stress about what to wear. The experience is much more valuable to me. Also, if you're traveling to a winter-destination, then you'll be wearing the same coat in every picture anyways, so no need to pack a bunch of different tops!

I use Icebreaker Merino Wool for several of my base layers. You only need a few of these because they don't get smelly or show sweat, so you can re-wear them everyday on your trip! I pull Zella live-in leggings (they're so comfy and durable) over top of the merino wool base layer leggings, then slip on wool socks and my Sorel boots. Sorel boots are perfect for a wet/cold destination because they cover all the bases by being waterproof and also great for hiking. I wear two merino wool base layer tops, and either my rain jacket or winter parka on top depending on outside temperatures. For summer trips, I pack 1-2 swimsuits and my rainbow flip-flops. For jeans, I buy mostly from ASOS Petite and Levi's. I rotate out dresses and tops, so didn't put any of those below.

Technology

I try not to bring too much with me on trips and being space-conscious is key to packing lightly. Here is what I usually bring for a trip: my iphone XS, the Fitbit Alta Hr for tracking my exercise, the GoPro Hero 6 Black for video, the DJI Mavic Air for drone footage, and the Sony A6300 for photography. GoPro is a convenient choice for video footage, if you're doing a lot of handheld filming, consider getting a gimbal for steadier footage. I love the Mavic Air drone because it's so portable! The Sony A6300 is a super compact and easy-to-use mirrorless camera that's perfect for travel photography.

Personal Care

Here are some other items I always pack while traveling! I pack ibuprofen in case I get a headache, especially if there's a crazy time difference. I also use Kimberly Snyder's Detoxy+ supplements to help with digestion! My stomach gets upset with different sleeping patterns and these help immensely with the dehydration and stress that comes with traveling. The Burt's Bees travel-size wipes are so important! I use these since I often forget to wash my face while traveling; they help to keep my skin clean and breakout-free. I also always pack my daily foundation because breaking out sucks and also it has SPF 50+ to keep my skin protected from sun damage! A water bottle is a necessity as well to stay hydrated!

Hi! I'm Jackie and my dog is Sora. I work remote as an engineer, but I love to spend my free time in nature and by traveling to new places. I take my camera wherever I go, and sometimes my drone.
